Diplodocus was 90 to 175 feet long and it weighed 10 to 12 tons. It is considered the longest dinosaur that ever walked on earth!
The name "Diplodocus" means "strange beam". It refers to two rows of bones in the tail that help support it's weight and give it ease of movement.
Diplodocus was a slow animal. It walked between 5 to 9 miles per hour and it lived and traveled in herds.
Diplodocus was a herbivore. It ate moss, ferns, conifers and other low laying plants.
The first fossil of a Diplodocus ever found was in Canon City, Colorado in 1877. Many other fossils have been discovered since in Montana, Utah and Wyoming.
